Absolut Balle
Balleskolens Brass Band has recorded a CD at Danmarks Radio’s studios in Århus.
Some would say none too soon! Balleskolens Brass Band has had overwhelming
success at the Danish Brass Band Championships, where the orchestra, with an
average age of 16 has won two first prizes and two second prizes, thereby
placing itself as Denmark’s best youth orchestra. But it took our Silver Jubilee
before something serious was done about recording the orchestra for posterity.
And now it is here – the brass band’s own CD!
It’s title is "Absolut Balle -25 years of musical cameos with Balleskolens Brass
Band".
The musicians themselves came up with the title.
The recording was a gift from the committee, parents and supporters in
connection with the orchestra’s Silver Jubilee.
Tiger Rag, boogie and James Bond
The CD features part of the broad repertoire which has become characteristic of
the orchestra today, and which has indeed been its trademark in over 500
performances. Many will recognise such titles as The Mardi Gras March, Opus One,
Tiger Rag, Teddy the Toad, Cachita, There's no business like Show Business, Hot
Toddy and Bandstand Boogie. And of course we couldn’t leave out the bubbly
E’Spenstig, which has almost become Balleskolens Brass Band’s signature tune.
Film sound tracks arranged for brass band are also represented with numbers such
as Out of Africa and James Bond Collection, and the piece which gave the
orchestra’s first victory at the Danish Championships in 1991 - A Tameside
Overture, which shows off the orchestra’s classical acumen. Altogether 14 titles
on this CD where music director, Jens Nørby as always puts the orchestra through
its paces in this exciting repertoire.
